In order to make sustainable tourism a reality

One’s destination is never a place, but a new way of seeing things – Henry Miller

In recent years, Japan has been making an effort to boost tourism and the number of foreigners that have visited Japan have reached a record breaking point.

The number of tourists has increased from 10 to almost 40 million in less than 10 years.

The coronavirus pandemic is an unprecedented crisis for the tourism economy, which faces major challenges as the pandemic has profoundly changed the behavior of everyone when it comes to travel.

As a result, not only will the way people travel change, but their needs and demands are likely to be quite different when compared with tourism yesterday.

At My Japan Guide, we see this crisis as an opportunity to travel in a more sustainable way and we commit to the following actions:

  • Minimize negative economic, environmental and social impacts
  • Generate greater economic benefits for local populations and improve the well-being of host communities
  • Work with local guides
  • Involve local populations in decisions that affect their lives
  • Make positive contributions to the conservation of natural and cultural heritage, to the maintenance of diversity
  • Provide more enjoyable experiences for visitors through more meaningful relationships with the local population
  • Bring a better understanding of local cultural, social and environmental issues
  • Be culturally sensitive, engender respect between tourists and hosts, and build local pride and trust
  • Avoid mass tourism and the deterioration it causes to the environment

My Japan Guide is committed to encouraging its guests to be respectful of the environment, to meet the locals and to participate in their economic development during their stay.
