What you’ll see & do
Book this tour alone or include it in a custom trip
This private tour can be booked as a standalone day or included within a custom Japan itinerary, with hotels, transport, guides, cultural experiences, and local support arranged around your dates.
Izakaya (居酒屋) — literally “sit-down sake shop” — is the Japanese-style pub where salarymen, students and locals have eaten and drunk together after work for centuries. Cheap, loud, always packed, and deeply specific to each neighbourhood: the izakaya in Shinjuku’s Golden Gai are nothing like those in Shimokitazawa or Nakameguro.
On this private three-hour evening crawl, your local guide leads you through three or four izakaya that tourists rarely find — chosen for the night based on neighborhood, season and mood. You will drink sake, try the bar snacks and small plates that define Japanese gastropub culture, and learn enough about izakaya etiquette to feel genuinely at ease.
No two evenings are identical. The route changes with the city.
