Book this tour alone or include it in a custom trip
This private tour can be booked as a standalone day or included within a custom Japan itinerary, with hotels, transport, guides, cultural experiences, and local support arranged around your dates.
Hiroshima (広島) was destroyed on the morning of 6 August 1945, when the United States dropped the first atomic bomb used in warfare. The city was rebuilt. The Peace Memorial Park was designed by Kenzo Tange in 1954 on the site of the blast epicentre. The Atomic Bomb Dome – the only structure left standing near the hypocentre – was preserved as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
On this private full-day tour your guide takes you through the Peace Memorial Park and Museum in the morning – at the pace the subject demands – and then by ferry to Miyajima Island in the afternoon. Itsukushima Shrine, the floating torii gate at high tide, Daishoin Temple and the forest path. The island in the late afternoon, after the day-trippers have left, is quiet in a way that stays with you.
