Naoshima Private Tour – Chichu, Benesse House & the Art House Project
The Surreal Japan Art Island
What you’ll see & do
Book this tour alone or include it in a custom trip
This private tour can be booked as a standalone day or included within a custom Japan itinerary, with hotels, transport, guides, cultural experiences, and local support arranged around your dates.
Naoshima (直島) is a small island in the Seto Inland Sea where Benesse Holdings and architect Tadao Ando spent three decades building something extraordinary – a network of museums, hotels and public artworks embedded into the landscape and the traditional fishing village of Honmura. The Chichu Art Museum is buried entirely underground. The Lee Ufan Museum is cut into a hillside. The Art House Project occupies actual homes in the old village, each one transformed by a different artist.
On this private full-day tour your art expert guides you through the island’s major sites at a pace that allows genuine engagement rather than a checklist. Museum entrance fees are included. Transport between sites is by private car.
