Katsunuma winery tour with a wine expert

You might think “Wine in Japan?” History of wine making in Japan started in the Edo period (19th century), and now wine is produced in various regions in Japan. Japan is a difficult land for wine making, as grapes suffer from hot and humid summers and frigid winters.

But determined growers and winemakers have been perfecting their crafts  and local wine in Japan is experiencing a small renaissance.

With Yoko a certified wine expert from Japan Sommelier Association, we offer a day tour in the Katsunuma region, where 80 vineyards in Katsunuma, the most premier wine region of Japan.

The day begins with a tour of one of the most important estate vineyard in Katsunuma, that produces the authentic Japanese grape which raises some attention in the wine world, the “Koshu”.

For lunch you will enjoy “Yamanashi French course” with selected food using farm-fresh and locally grown ingredients.

The day continues with a visit of the Marufuji Winery (winery with 120 years history). Their Chardonnais, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot have been shining, winning awards in wine tastings throughout Japan.

On site visit to the factory and then the winery to learn all about Koshu making which ends with wine tasting of course!
